Painting Cabinets - An Instant Upgrade!

Image
About a month ago, Adeline started to stretch out her nap FINALLY (though it's still not consistent). That combined with the fact that I am currently not pregnant (and thus have energy and not worried about paint fumes), I decided I should tackle a project that has been on my "someday DIY list." And thus began the project of painting our bathroom AND kitchen cabinets!! I began in the bathroom and worked my way to the kitchen. This was definitely a learning experience. I used chalk paint (NOT chalkBOARD paint - we don't need to write on our cabinets!!), which is commonly used to paint furniture. It's a newish fad. I chose to use it for a few reasons: Chalk paint is forgiving. You don't see brush strokes in the same way you do with pure latex paint. You don't have to sand the cabinets. Chalk paint adheres to the surface it's painted to. (Supposedly - time will tell, I guess.) This was clearly a huge reason! Sanding is a beating. Now keep in mind, w...

New floors!

Image
Recently hubby put in new hardwood floors (engineered) in our front room! It was carpet before, which made our dining room table a waste, honestly. With little kids, we just really never wanted to eat there and risk getting food all over the carpet. Since we have a breakfast nook, we always ate there. And we are sorta running out of space there! Sooo to better utilize our house, enjoy it more, and increase the value, we went for hardwoods. Here's a "before" from a few years ago. A few things changed, like the desk on the left, where we had the piano and a giant desk area out of the photo. And the can lights Brendon recently added. The rest was pretty similar though. And now for the hardwoods... And here is the room all ready for Lil's party just days after this hu-mungo project! So glad it was finished in time! Whew. Notice we rearranged. The piano is now against the wall that isn't seen in the photo, where a giant desk once wa...

Nesting and Home Projects: The Living Room and Kitchen

Image
We are in full nesting mode here! And dare I say Brendon might be too? He's certainly been taking on some awesome lighting projects! Family and friends have been asking for photos, and since this is our first day in five days with Internet, I'm finally uploading some photos! And since I can't even remember the last time every room of my house was clean and clutter-free, I think it's best we just do the tour one room at a time. We will start with the living room! Randi came over and did some rearranging. First thing she did was push down the couch and side table a bit to the right and then push back the recliner, to open the room a little. In the rearranging process, the green chaise had to go (a later photo), so I've been trying to add more color. Since this photo was taken, I've already added some some blue-green chevron pillows. Another view.   And when we had an electrician out this week, I went ahead and had him run a cable down a new wall f...

Cute baby and Momma's latest project!

Image
Check out this sweet little winter hat I got for Lilleigh! Quite the deal at Old Navy . This isn't the best photo of the hat, but it's sooo cute of Lil! And check out this awesome idea for living room decor. Using an old pallet! I had Brendon bring me home one from his work warehouse. So I need to sand and stain it. Possibly reconfigure ours a bit... It looks slightly different. Oh and it's HEAVY! So Brendon has a fun job cut out for himself... finding the studs and anchoring this baby down! But so creative, right?? PS Thanks for your sweet comments yesterday. We are hanging in there. Trying to love our sweet friends well.

I'm feeling inspired.
