Need a book to read...

I could really use a good summer read. Nothing sappy or scary. Any suggestions?

"Two Divorces Too Many"

A friend just posted this on her blog, and I couldn't help but post it here also. There's a lot of truth to this article . Too many people are hurt by divorce. And like this writer, Matthew Dicks, I often find myself in awkward situations, trying to explain my family. But fortunately for me, I still keep in contact with all of my family, whether they are legally related to me or biologically related to me or now neither... regardless of the relationship, I am so thankful for the close relationships I have maintained. I know not everyone is as fortunate.

Prayer

I sent out an email two weeks ago asking for prayer. A friend sent me this: "Thomas Lye once said, 'I had rather stand against the cannons of the wicked than against the prayers of the righteous.' Don’t forget that it was the angel that fetched Peter out of prison, but it was prayer that fetched the angel!" I love that. Sometimes there's not a lot we can do, and it makes us realize how much we need Him. All we can do is pray.

She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named

Dogs are funny. And I find our dog particularly funny because she's so smart; she catches on very quickly... almost too quickly for being a dog. She's also extremely well-mannered. Friends come over and just laugh the whole time because she sits up on the couch as if she's a human. Yes, we let her on the couch... she's very calm and polite. Like I said, very much like a human. (We know she's a dog though. Don't worry. We're not THOSE dog lovers. You know who I'm talking about.) Another thing that makes me laugh is how she always knows when we're talking about her. Brendon and I can be talking, not even looking at or paying attention to her, and the second she hears "Sammy," her ears perk up, her tail starts wagging (really, more of a bounce), and she positions herself directly underneath us - to receive pets, of course. It really is funny. She just knows. When her ears are up and tail wagging, we joke and whisper, "She knows." Lik

Harry Potter

When the Harry Potter mania first began, I read the first book. But then the movies started coming out, and I couldn't keep up. But after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I decided I really needed to read the books. Only watching the movies made me feel like a lesser fan, so that had to change. But being in school, I really had no time to read them, so I began listening to the audio books. The series is narrated by Jim Dale, who has won two Grammies for his amazing narration. He is also in the Guiness Book of World Records for the most voices (134) in an audiobook. His talent really brings the book to life. Whether you have read the books or not, I highly recommend listening to them on CD. Put them in the car. You'll be done in no time! As for the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince , I thought it was quite good myself. There were definitely parts that were different and parts that I wish had been included, but a 20-hour long movie might get a little boring.

Makes Me Laugh

My dad sent us this card for our anniversary! The fat pooches and the fact that he labeled them "Ashleigh" and "Brendon" made me laugh!

We had a wonderful and relaxing weekend at Oak Grove! (Oak Grove is what Brendon's cousins call their farm house.) It was so nice to get away and so nice of his cousins to let us use their house! It's out in the middle of the country. It was so nice to get away from the fast pace of the city for a bit! Here is a picture of where we stayed. We loved every minute of it!

Our Anniversary

Yesterday was really sweet. Brendon took off work at lunch to take me to lunch. We went to the Baker Bros in Addison (my fave), but it was closed!! So sad. Anyway we didn't have a ton of time because I had to go to class, so we went to the Chickfila nearby! We do love Chickfila. Then when I got home from class, I found that he had left me roses on my desk with a card telling me when to be ready to leave for dinner and what to wear. I love the thought he put into this! For dinner we went to Three Forks, which was delicious! We actually had a gift card (nice gift, I know) from there that, of course, we hadn't used because neither of us are into fancy restaurants unless it truly is a special occasion. It was a wonderful evening and really great food! I highly recommend it, especially their pan-seared lamb. And lastly, Brendon surprised me by taking me out of town this weekend!! I can't wait! I have been dying to get out of Dallas! So this surprise was supposed to come after di

The other night we got together with a bunch of the girls that I had small group with in college and their hubbies. It was so fun to catch up with the girls! I miss them so much! We have a reunion trip planned for August. I can't wait! Love you girls! Miss you already, Nora!
