Baby Weight

I have to confess. I have totally been down on myself about all this baby weight. It's been almost 3 months since I gave birth, and aside from the initial amount I lost with having Lil, I've lost nothing. Yep, zip. I've never had a weight issue. Ever. I used to not be able to gain weight for the life of me. Now I need to lose it.

The funny thing is that I look at myself in the mirror and think I look great for just having a baby - in a non-prideful way, of course. I just think I look normal. I'm happy with my actually appearance. Sure I'd love for a little chub to go away, but it doesn't get to me. But I'll tell you what does get to me. Trying to wear my old clothes.

Every so often I try on my old jeans, only to find that I can't get them up past my thighs. I bought a pair of "in-between" jeans. They're TWO waist sizes bigger than my old ones! Ouch.

When I was pregnant, moms constantly told me, "Oh you'll lose all that breastfeeding!" Yeah, well I'm here to tell you that that is not always true. After sharing my frustration with other moms recently, I've started hearing, "I didn't lose any of my baby weight until after I was done nursing." Great. Thanks. After I'm done nursing, it'll be time for baby #2.

Believe it or not, I didn't write this post just to complain. I wrote it for two reasons:
  1. For you pregnant moms out there, don't believe it. You might lose that baby weight really fast, and if so, that's awesome! Don't tell me about it. But more than likely, you won't. It might even take a full year or however long you nurse for you to really start losing weight. And that's okay. Buy some "in-between" clothes to make yourself feel better in the meantime.
  2. It's my goal to lose my extra weight (17 lbs, that is) BEFORE I turn 27 in November. I've found that working out at a club isn't exactly doable for me, so that means lots of walks, home work outs, and healthy eating!
Like I said before, I've never had to lose weight, so trying to lose it is a foreign concept. I'm going to have to learn how. Any tips?

  1. Hi love! I have heard that 9 months on, 9 months off. . . but sometimes it takes longer! You can do it! :-) PS I think you look GREAT! :-)

  2. I haven't had a baby so I know nothing about losing baby weight, but I'm doing weight watchers and I love it. It has really changed the way I eat and the way I view food, and I started losing weight from the beginning. It is a little more work, but I think it gets easier as you go and is totally worth it. Hope to see you soon too!

  3. I totally empathize. I am still retaining weight from having Sally. And, like you, I really don't feel "fat" until I try to wear my old clothes. It is hard to find the time and motivation to workout when all I want to do when I have some free time is take a break and relax. Maybe we could set some goals together and be baby weight loss partners? Just and idea.

  4. Elizabeth, thanks for the encouragement! Yeah I'm starting to hear the 9 months thing more. I guess I was just in the dark about all this!
Jessica, not sure I can do weight watchers. I know I'm not supposed to diet while breastfeeding, but I can exercise and eat healthy... I'm trying! And I'm trying also not to weigh myself... haha.
Holly, I'm totally on board for that! Like maybe just being accountable to finding time to work out, even if its doing exercises on the floor while the babies play or taking them out on walks, etc. And of course, for eating well!
