Colorado, Part 1

We drove to Colorado again this year! It was wonderful and relaxing to spend time with hubs and Sammy!

We began our trip with one long day of driving. We made it to Buena Vista for the night, where we stayed at a motel... sad... the Best Western there didn't accept pets. For those of you who don't normally travel with pets, surprisingly many hotels accept them for an additional $10-15 pet deposit fee. And Best Westerns typically are dog friendly, just not this one... sad. So Super 8 it was. And let me just say this - not impressive. They put us in their pet room, which smelled like cat urine that had been covered up many times over by air fresheners. This pregnant (or even non!) lady was not going to have that. Fortunately though hubby convinced the woman at the front desk to move us and our well-behaved dog to a non-pet room, where we breathed much better. Phew.

The next morning we finished our drive by taking Independence Pass over the Continental Divide. So beautiful!

And finally we made it to Brendon's grandparents' house, which is between Aspen and Vail. Their place is on the back of their community and sits on 4 acres and backs up to Roaring Forks River. It's gorgeous! Needless to say, Sammy loves to run free there.

Brendon's cousin Amy and her husband Tim met us there as well. We loved hanging out with them! We went into Aspen together, relaxed on the back porch, and hiked Hanging Lake. Hanging Lake was a beautiful hike and also much more strenuous than I was led to believe, but I made it to the top!

And of course we enjoyed quality time with his grandparents!

To be continued...
