Trip to Houston

This weekend we went to Houston for Brendon's sister (Meredith)'s high school graduation! Brendon's grandparents and aunt were all in town for the occasion, so it was fun to get to see everyone.

Going to Houston is always eventful because we have so much family, but we managed to see everyone! We even got to see my Tita, who was bit on Thursday by a copperhead snake! Crazy! We brought her dinner Friday night though, which was great. We also were able to make it by a friend's couples wedding shower, which was awesome, because we miss being able to see friends when we go in town!

And sweet Sammy actually played with Meredith's dog, Oliver. I was such a proud puppy mommy! Sammy hasn't been the most social around other dogs, but every time we went to Brendon's mom's house this past weekend, she initiated playtime with Oliver! And I think she's worn out because when I got up this morning for class at 6 am, I fed Sammy, but she didn't eat her food! She went back to bed with Brendon. Haha. Sweet girl!

    What fun! I'm glad Sammy is playing better with others :) Also, Isaac does actually work for his internship. It didn't use to be like that because they did just try to wine and dine them, but with the economy down they are utilizing the clerks. It is good because it gaves Isaac good experience because he is researching laws and writing memos (some to be presented in court), but it also kind of stinks because so far he has been working like a dog! He got up at 8 yesterday and worked until after midnight last night on work stuff. Hopefully it will settle down a bit soon!

Today my brother Austen would have been 24. We're only 16 months apart. I loved having a brother so close in age. Growing up I always had a playmate and a partner in crime when it came to picking on our younger two siblings, William and Anabelle. William didn't even come around until 1992, so for years it was just the two of us. And eventually we became 4 (siblings)... and now more... and our sibling love grew. But Austen and I will always have that special bond. For those of you who don't know, my brother struggled with addiction for a long time. Thursday he lost that battle. I can't believe it's only been two days. It feels like it's been an eternity since my mom (SMom, in this post) called me to tell me. Friendships and Answered Prayers

I'm grateful. I keep trying to think of something clever or cute or sweet to start this post, but these are the words that come to mind. The Lord has continually provided me with sweet friendships throughout my life, and I am grateful. This season, the anniversary and birthday of my brother, always makes me reflect on friendships. I had a few sweet friends drive in from Dallas to be with my in Houston after Austen died. And I had many of my Houston friends, from growing up, show up to help and comfort and off condolences. Not to mention, many of Austen's friends were my friends, and my friends, his friends. Regardless, I was in awe at how the Lord prompted these sweet friends in their words, their actions, their showing up, when we needed them. In the months before Austen died, I had been in a season of desperation and loneliness. I was 25 years old and in my third and final year of graduate school.
